Frequently asked

What is a Bitcoin CME gap?
CME’s regulated Bitcoin futures contract trades on a traditional schedule and is closed roughly Friday 22:00 UTC through Sunday 23:00 UTC, while spot Bitcoin trades 24/7. If BTC’s price moves during that closed window, a visible "gap" opens between the pre-close level and the reopen level. Traders watch whether and when price later trades back through that level — commonly called a "gap fill."
How is the gap calculated on this page?
CME’s own futures tick data is a paid subscription feed (CME DataMine), not a free public API — so this page does NOT read CME’s print directly. It uses spot BTCUSDT price at the exact same UTC session-boundary times CME’s own schedule defines (Friday 22:00 UTC close, Sunday 23:00 UTC reopen), the same boundary already tracked on the Trading Sessions Clock. Because CME’s BTC future is cash-settled against a spot-derived reference rate, this proxy tracks the real gap closely, but it is an honest approximation, not CME’s own settlement print.
How is a gap "filled"?
A gap is marked filled the first time price trades back through the pre-gap level after the reopen — for a gap down, when price rises back to or above the Friday close level; for a gap up, when price falls back to or below it. This page checks every hour of subsequent price data to find the first crossing.
Do CME gaps always get filled?
No. Gap-fill rate varies over time and by market regime — this page shows the actual observed fill rate over its own tracked history rather than citing a fixed statistic, since that rate changes as new data accrues. Past patterns do not guarantee a specific gap will fill or when.
Is this financial advice?
No. This page describes a historical price pattern and its observed frequency — it is not a trading recommendation, and an open gap is not a signal to enter or exit a position. Informational only.
