Bullish BreakoutThe last completed close is beyond the 20-day upper channel. That close crossed above the band.
Testing Upper BandThe last completed close is at or within 1% inside the upper channel. It has not crossed above the band.
Bullish TrendThe last completed close sits between the midline and the upper band, inside the channel.
Neutral / CompressionThe last completed close is near the Donchian midline, inside the channel.
Bearish TrendThe last completed close sits between the midline and the lower band, inside the channel.
Testing Lower BandThe last completed close is at or within 1% inside the lower channel. It has not crossed below the band.
Bearish BreakdownThe last completed close is beyond the 20-day lower channel. That close crossed below the band.

What is a Donchian Channel?

A Donchian Channel plots the highest high and lowest low over a rolling lookback window — here, 20 days. The upper band is the highest daily close in the last 20 sessions; the lower band is the lowest; the midline is their average. A completed close beyond the upper band is beyond the 20-day high of the window. A completed close beyond the lower band is beyond the 20-day low. A close still inside the band has not crossed it.

Liquid State uses the Donchian(20) channel as one of the four signals that compose the Systematic Market Barometer. Trend-following strategies built on Donchian breakouts have been documented in the original Turtle Trading experiments — and remain one of the cleanest mechanical signals in crypto due to the asset class's momentum-driven price action.
