Color-coded view of 8-hour funding rates for 20 major perpetual contracts over the last 7 days. Red cells signal long-heavy positioning; green cells signal short-heavy positioning. Educational only — not financial advice.
Red = crowded long. More traders are long than short; the funding rate is positive, meaning longs pay shorts. When rates are very positive (>0.05–0.10%), positions may be overleveraged and a long liquidation cascade becomes more probable if price drops sharply.
Green = crowded short. Funding is negative; shorts pay longs. Extreme negative funding raises the probability of a short squeeze if price moves upward.
Gray = balanced. Funding near zero suggests neither side dominates — positioning is not providing a directional signal. This is the default on most Binance contracts.
Binance perpetuals settle funding every 8 hours: 00:00, 08:00, and 16:00 UTC. The rate is the annualised 8h premium at settlement. Systematic traders use extreme funding readings as a risk-management input, not a standalone entry signal. Educational only.
