What is the Pi Cycle Top Indicator?
The Pi Cycle Top Indicator was developed by analyst Philip Swift. It tracks two specific moving averages of Bitcoin's daily closing price: the 111-day MA and the 350-day MA × 2. When the shorter 111DMA crosses above the longer 2×350DMA, Bitcoin has historically been within days of a major cycle top.
The name comes from the mathematical constant π (pi ≈ 3.14159). The ratio 350 ÷ 111 ≈ 3.153 — remarkably close to π — a numerical coincidence that resonated with the broader Bitcoin community.
Unlike indicators based on a single threshold (e.g., "above 200DMA"), the Pi Cycle tracks the convergence between two trend lines at different speeds, capturing the characteristic acceleration that tends to occur near late-cycle peaks.
